Sports Media BA Program to Launch at Ryerson. Ryerson University will soon hit the playing field with its new Bachelor of Arts in Sport Media program, the first of its kind in North America. The rapid explosion of sport media outlets on multiple platforms, including television, radio, mobile devices, and websites has created a demand for specifically- trained production personnel and sports media executives.
Ryerson says that students will be exposed to the creative, production, marketing and business sides of the industry when the progam launches next year, with an opportunity to become a specialist in their area of choosing. With a full range of information, skills and practical knowledge, Sport Media graduates gain a competitive advantage from their multiple facets of learning. Integrated with the cutting- edge facilities at the Mattamy Athletic Centre., formerly Maple Leaf Gardens, and the Rogers Communication Centre for broadcasting, students will have the opportunity to work with the latest technology in field production.

Through this program, students will hone their production skills, including a focus on live production, in addition to courses in media theory and history, business basics, sport marketing, sport broadcasting and journalism, as well as media entrepreneurship, with the ability to specialize in the area of their choosing. Fourth year will include a practicum project designed to showcase emerging talent, a capstone lecture series, and an internship for real- world experience. A variety of minors are available, with particular consideration for a minor in Business Essentials from Ryerson’s Ted Rogers School of Management.
Graduates from the Sport Media program will find themselves well situated for a variety of exciting careers, Ryerson reports, such as working for a broadcaster, sport specialty channel, or production company. They can pursue roles in sports marketing, management, and producing.
